How is chin augmentation performed?
The most common way we perform the surgery is with a silicone implant. The implant is placed through a small incision either under the chin or inside the mouth. The surgery takes about 1 hour and is usually performed in the office. Sometimes the surgery is combined with other procedures such as liposuction of the neck or rhinoplasty.
What are some alternatives to chin implants?
Genioplasty can involve moving the bone forward in the chin to reposition it in a more anterior position. Sometimes, the entire lower jaw can be moved forward with a procedure called bilateral sagittal split osteotomy. Less invasive procedures such as injectable fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse) can be used to increase chin projection as well.
